A Good Day in Robonka School

The people in Robonka community in Sierra Leone are very committed to education. The SHF delegation visited there on their last trip. The school badly needs to be renovated but 300 pupils attend. Recently we sent €600 to help the children. Our Country Director, Alimamy Samura has sent a report:

“The distribution of learning materials comprising school bags, exercise books, geometry sets, rulers, pens, pencils, erasers, and sharpeners took place at the school ground yesterday the 27th. of October at 9:00 am. Rev. Fr. Baimba the RC Schools Manager for that parish was in attendance. Some community stakeholders and parents also witnessed the distribution exercise. A total of 73 pupils benefited from the assistance. Classes 4 and 5 received a school bag, 6 Cobra books, geometry set, pen, and a ruler each whilst the remaining pupils received a dozen normal exercise books, a ruler, pen, pencil, eraser, and a sharpener each. Small cash of Le.100,000 (€8) was also provided to the three community teachers as a kind of honorarium. The pupils, community stakeholders, and parents present were very much happy and asked me to convey their sincere thanks and appreciation to you and the entire Foundation for the great support provided to them. Rev. Fr. Baimba in his address thanked SHF for such a humanitarian gesture that came as a surprise. He called on the parents to cooperate with the school authorities in building up their children's academic performance. He ended his speech with the hope that more big things will happen in Robonka community. The chief also gave a short statement and thanked you for the wonderful gift. The exercise ended with joy and the pupils went back to their respective classes”

Our schools in Sierra Leone get new gardens

SHF has funded a programme where gardens are cultivated in the schools. This provides training in cultivation and also a small source of nutritious food.

Maize and garden eggs were grown in Rothana and Katick. The maize has been harvested and they are now engaged in the second cropping of yellow maize and other seeds received from SHF. Seeds received from SHF are yellow maize, water melon, cucumber, okra and sweet pepper.
